Wine Consultant - Tan Ying Hsien
The owner of Taberna Wine Academy and a member of the Ordre des Coteaux de Champagne, Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin and Commanderie de Bordeaux, Tan Ying Hsien is now enrolled with the Institute of Masters of Wine on its education programme to qualify as a Master of Wine. He was also awarded the Champagne Trinity Scholarship 2010 by the Institute of Masters of Wine. Ying Hsien started tasting and studying wine in 1983 while pursuing university studies in the United Kingdom, and has not stopped since in his quest to slake his thirst for wine knowledge. He has visited all the classic wine regions of France as well as to some of the wine regions of Italy, Spain, Portugal, South Africa, Australia, the USA and the Russian Tsar’s former cellars at Massandra. Ying Hsien was on the tasting panel of Wine & Dine, Singapore for a number of years and participated as a judge in International Wine Challenges held in Singapore. He was also one of the judges at the inaugural Decanter Asia Wine Awards 2012 in Hong Kong recently. Ying Hsien currently writes about wine as a freelance journalist, tastes for The Local Nose and provides wine talks. |
