World Gourmet Summit 2001 promises to be more grand and exciting than ever and it is definitely an event that simply cannot be missed by lovers of fine cuisine and wine everywhere. Beginning from 22 to 27 April 2001, WGS will present the most invigorating gastronomic events of the century!

Highlights


Welcome Reception, 22 April 2001
A grand welcome to our foreign participants in World Gourmet Summit 2001. Guests will rub shoulders with masterchefs, winemakers, restaurateurs, dignitaries, media and partners. Our local chefs will take this opportunity to display their creativity in the preparations for this cocktail reception. This event is by invitation only. This year, the welcome reception was at Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre.
   


WGS Awards of Excellence Gala Presentation, 22 April 2001
This evening marks the inaugural event --- World Gourmet Summit Awards of Excellence that celebrates the spectrum of talents found within Singapore's F&B and hospitality industries. These awards, supported by the Singapore Tourism Board, have categories such as "Best Chef of the Year", "Best Rising Chef", "Best Wine Sommelier", "Best Restaurant" and so on.

The Awards was launched officially during World Gourmet Summit 2001 and will be expanded to include regional nominees in the subsequent years.

Epicurean Delights, 23 - 26 April 2001
Unravel the creative display of fine cuisine from our guest chefs at some of Singapore's top establishments. Guest chefs displayed their culinary finesse in a string of lunch and dinner promotions organized by participating hosting restaurants. Guests will not only enjoy the chefs' creations but also the best wines from world acclaimed wineries.

Culinary Masterclasses, 23 - 26 April 2001
A great opportunity to get up-close with our culinary maestros! Watch how our guest chefs whip up a storm and pick up the finer points of cooking and learn the secrets of the trade. This year's Masterclasses were held at a new location -- at-sunrice Fort Canning Park, the new state-of-art cooking academy.

Participants also stood a chance to win a Hewlett Packard computer, printer and a set of Resort Kitchen software.

Grand Jury Européen Wine Masterclasses, 24 April 2001
Experience first-hand, the proceedings and challenges of professional wine tasting. A definite learning experience! Participants can choose from the four different wine masterclasses; Bordeaux
Right Bank '98, Bordeaux Left Bank '98, and Prestige Cuvée Champagne '90.

Grand Jury Européen Professional Wine Tasting,
25 to 26 April 2001

A rare opportunity to experience the solemnity of professional wine tasting! Get an insight of how the wine gurus rate wines, a session where the best and the worst will be established. With a total of four sessions over two days, participants will get to taste wines from the 1998 vintages of the five growths of Bordeaux.

Masterchef Safaris, 23 - 25 April 2001
One of the most popular events in World Gourmet Summit saw a new twist this time round. A theme will be incorporated for each Safari where diners will embark on a unique gastronomic odyssey that will take them to different restaurants. Expect to cruise the highways in magnificent Harley Davidsons or Vintage Cars for each destination. Guests even have the opportunity to dine in the heart of a professional kitchen where they could watch their dinner being perfected by our guest chefs.

Vintners' Dinners , 23 - 26 April 2001
This year's World Gourmet Summit focused on bringing a stellar gathering of wine makers and organising a series of equally stunning wine tastings and programmes. A rare opportunity to sample some of the finest wines in the world!

Grand Jury Européen Charity Dinner , 26 April 2001
Hosted at the Shangri-La Hotel, the Grand Jury Européen Charity Dinner represents a culmination of the series of wine tasting for the World Gourmet Summit. A total of S$176,900 have been raised in aid of the Singapore Community Chest.

WGS International Food & Beverage Forum, 27 April 2001
The challenges of today's competitive environment and the ever-changing trends werediscussed to assist the industry professionals in understanding the market conditions. Conducted by renowned personalities both local and overseas, this forum presented a platform for individuals to exchange ideas and share information.

Grand Finale Dinner, 27 April 2001
Held at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore, a spectacular evening featuring each Masterchef's signature dishes, accompanied by wines of participating wineries. The banquet unfolded amidst glitzy entertainment and bring the unforgettable week-long gourmet adventure in Singapore to a befitting climax.
