Luca Cigliuti
La Spinetta and under Luca, La Spinetta combines four different Estates with four individual wineries. When in 1977 Giuseppe Rivetti together with his son, Giorgio, began to make his own Moscato d'Asti, he could not have imagined that one day La Spinetta combines three properties in Piedmont and one in Tuscany. It took the Rivetti family over 35 years to grow from a little Moscato producer to one of the best and bigger wineries in Italy, using 100% estate grown fruit.
A combination of great passion for wine, strong ideals, respect for tradition and the ambition to make something exceptionally well, made Giorgio and his family decide to keep on growing, expanding the indigenous wine portfolio and to expand over the borders of Piedmont and over the borders of making "just" wine.
The Barolo Campe winery, today also Giorgio's home, was the realization of a dream coming true, the dream to one day make a Barolo. The expansion to Tuscany, first just a bet for Giorgio, to show, that one does not need Cabernet or Merlot to blend with Sangiovese in order to make great Tuscan wines, is now an Estate on its own with 65 hectares of Sangiovese and Vermentino vineyards.
Then in 2010 the Rivettis, driven again by Giorgio, fell in love with Piedmont's oldest classic method sparkling wine producer, Contratto. Not wanting that this historic and gorgeous cellar would end up in the hands of some global multinational beverage producer, La Spinetta took over this Estate in 2011. A new bet and challenge for Giorgio and his team, to revive a brand that once made the best Italian sparkling wines and Vermouth.
