Hiroshi Ishida
Born and based in Toyko, Hiroshi Ishida is a sommelier, consultant and writer. He currently works at Hotel Nikko Tokyo as their executive sommelier and also acts as a consultant and writer for other projects. He previously worked as dining manager at the restaurant Beige Alain Ducasse Tokyo before being promoted to their general manager in 2004. His career led him on to be chief sommelier at Restaurant-I while concurrently serving as Hotel Nikko Tokyo’s executive sommelier. Hiroshi is a multiple winner of the Best Sommelier of Japan, winning the prestigious title in 1996, 1998 and most recently in 2014. Internationally, he took third place at the 10th ASI Contest in Montreal in 2000. His achievements in his field has earned him recognition by the government of Japan, receiving the “Tokyo Master” award from the governor of Tokyo in 2010, the “Contemporary Master Craftsman” from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in 2011 and the “Medal of Honour, Yellow Ribbon” from the Cabinet Office last year in 2014. In 2013, he was invited as guest judge for the Decanter Asia Wine Awards. For this year’s World Gourmet Summit 2015, the prefectural government of Ishikawa, Japan, has specially invited Hiroshi Ishida as guest sommelier to bring Ishikawa’s award-winning sake to the forefront of the culinary world. |
