The very first vineyard for Sassicaia took root around the 1940s, followed by two more vineyards in 1965, and countless more over the decades. Finally, the first vintage of 1968 was presented on the market; it was so well received that it was comparable to the Bordeaux Premier Crus. More recently, in the late 1990s, Sassicaia's Bolgheri was the only wine from a single estate in Italy to be granted the Denominazione di Origine Controllata. The winery has set a standard in the history of Italian wines ever since.
