Ms Alba Avilés Fernández joined the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT) in 2014 as International Representative for Asia and Oceania, based in Shanghai.
She has organised and participated in several international events and fairs in China, South Korea, and Japan (such as CISMEF, FOODEX, SIAL, International Wine & Spirits Expo) as well as various Tequila Seminars, spreading the culture of Tequila, as well as promoting it among distributors, importers and exporters in the region.
During her time at the CRT (Tequila Regulatory Council) she has participated in official negotiations alongside with the Mexican Government and the Government of various countries in Asia, in matters of protection of Mexico’s first Appellation of Origin “Tequila”. These negotiations aim to remove counterfeit products from the markets and seek the recognition of the geographical indicator “Tequila” in the region, thus having achieved the recognition of geographical indicator in the People’s Republic of China, Malaysia, Indonesia, and currently negotiating the certification mark in Hong Kong.
She also offers specialised consulting on technical norms and customs regulations for spirits in Asia-Pacific to tequila producers, distributors and bottlers in the region.
She holds a degree in International Business, from Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), campus Guadalajara, as well as an MBA in International Marketing from Universidad del Valle de México (UVM). Her international studies include certifications from Fudan University in Shanghai, China, for business and logistics in China, Business from the Universidad Europea de Madrid, and Russian Language Studies from Pushkin Institute in Moscow, Russia.
