ESTABLISHMENT DETAILS
Majestic Restaurant
Opened in January 2006, the award-winning Majestic Restaurant continues to be a stylish destination for modern Chinese dining in the heart of historic Chinatown. Housed within the New Majestic Hotel, the Majestic Restaurant is helmed by internationally renowned, award-winning owner-chef Yong Bing Ngen.
THE CUISINE
The cuisine is modern Chinese served on individual plating. Chef’s specialties at the Majestic Restaurant include signature dishes such as the combination platter of crispy wasabi prawn and peking duck served with pan-seared foie gras, stewed Boston lobster noodles with ginger and spring onions, pan-seared fillet of ribeye in sesame dressing, claypot rice with kampong chicken and chilled ‘mao shan wang’ durian with gula Malacca.
The Majestic will serve all dishes on its extensive collection of chic handmade and customized chinaware. This modern Chinese restaurant also has a wine cellar that houses 100 wine labels to compliment the delectable cuisine it serves.
THE DECOR
The décor of the restaurant is radically different and sheds all conventions of a traditional Chinese eatery. The restaurant seats 100, and has four private rooms, one of which allows guests to sneak peeks at Chef Yong’s culinary artistry in the kitchen. From its warm walnut flooring, and customized design chairs, to the one-way mirror shaded chandelier lights from the Moooi weer collection and entry feature wall in a kinetic composition of the latest Maharam fabrics, the Majestic restaurant reflects stylish, modern heritage.
Guests can either choose to dine in ambient privacy in the private rooms or in the main dining hall where there are “pool views” via ceiling portholes that look up into the New Majestic Hotel swimming pool. The Majestic restaurant will also feature a full display kitchen, a first in Singapore for a fine-dining Chinese eatery. Two circular corner Banquette booths create an intimate dining experience within the main hall.
The artistic centerpiece of the dining hall is a modern brass and copper sculpture from the ‘Ode to Homeland’ collection by one of China’s most prestigious sculptors, Cai Zhi Song, a professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts. Cai Zhi Song’s sculptures are masterpieces of modern day artistic skill combined with historical roots. He came into the global spotlight as the first Chinese artist to win the prestigious Taylor Prize, the top prize in the 2001 Paris Autumn Salon competition.
With its internationally-acclaimed chef at the helm, a menu that blends the traditional with the creative and progressive designer décor, Majestic Restaurant promises to be a unique and innovative dining experience!
