E. Guigal
Rhône Valley, France
Vintner:Christopher Cannan
Hosted at: Grand Hyatt Singapore

The Guigal domain was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in the ancient village of Ampuis, home of the wines of the Côte-Rôtie. Marcel Guigal took over from his father in 1961 and today, Philippe Guigal, oenologist, is the third generation to continue the family endeavour to be at the service of the greatest wines of the Rhône Valley. Today Guigal has a superb collection of vines in many appellations including particularly the Côte-Rôtie and its famous vineyards La Turque, La Landonne and La Mouline.

The quality of Guigal wines can be explained by the exceptional nature of the terroir from which they come, by the great care that is taken in growing the vines, by perfect wine-making, and perhaps most important of all, by an original method of maturing the wine which lasts forty months for the red wines instead of the usual eighteen months, and which immunises the wines against oxidation. As a result the wines take time to reach full maturity, but they are then of the highest quality and virtually indestructible.
