Young Spanish chef Romain Fornell’s masterclass was the first to kick-start World Gourmet Summit 2007’s series of exciting culinary demonstrations and guess who was co-hosting the workshop together with Tiffany Ho, our eloquent MC? Managing Director of Peter Knipp Holdings, Peter Knipp himself was in attendance to lend his expertise to the class and crack a couple of jokes in between. But as the youngest chef ever in France and Spain to be granted Michelin-star status, Fornell did a brilliant job in putting forth his culinary talents and impressed his audience well. Guests included media from Thailand, Philippines, Hong Kong and of course, Singapore, and other food aficionados.
Adapting a personal twist to classic Escoffier and Catalonian cuisine, Fornell presented a three plus one bonus (cold pina colada soup) demonstration of recipes that included the marinated sardine with watermelon couscous, suckling pig with pumpkin and green apple sorbet, and yoghurt foie gras with dry fruit muesli. The result was simply scrumptious and eye-opening since his dishes came across as totally unique and original. Last but never least, Fornell once again surprised his guests with an impromptu chocolate mousse dessert topped with chocolate sorbet that wasn’t listed on the menu. At the very first wine masterclass and vintner dinner of WGS2007, premium pours from Château Pichon Lalande were presented by winemaker Gildas d’Ollone. Eight wines from five vintages were shown to offer guests an insight into the differences between the winery’s grandvin (Château Pichon Lalande) and the second wine (Reserve de la Comtesse). Afterwards, a sold-out dinner for 130 people, prepared by two-Michelin-star chef Alain Llorca was matched with selected vintages from the château. Click here for more highlights!

It was a night of laughter as celebrity chef Keith Floyd wined and dined the crowd at Grand Hyatt Singapore who came to see the man in real life. Shuffling between two stages in the evening to entertain guests on both sides of the ballroom, Floyd kept the audience laughing the whole night with his jokes and travel stories. Guests were treated to a dinner specially designed by Floyd that showcases a variety of Asian tastes. At the end of the evening, Floyd invited the whole kitchen crew up onto the stage to thank them for the hard work putting together the delicious dinner for the evening.
