will rejoice when July unfolds with nights and days crammed full of magnificent reasons to feast as the Singapore Food Festival (SFF) hits town once again for the fifth consecutive year. Along with this, comes the second World Gourmet Summit (WGS) which took off on a resounding note last year, marrying top chefs from around the world with the crème de la crème of local culinary establishments.
Organised by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) with American Express (AMEX) as a major sponsor, the Summit falls in line with STB’s objective to position Singapore on the global culinary map and establish New Asia Cuisine as a recognised culinary form by appealing to both the interests of the trade and the consumer. The Summit provides leading chefs and restaurant owners of the world a meeting place to share new trends in enhancing the dining experience, and consumers, a chance to sample the finest culinary creations from around the world. In the pipeline are plans to partner the St. Moritz and Cape Gourmet Festivals in the establishment of a World Gourmet Club for the global unification of culinary excellence. STB is confident that though austere economic times are ahead, the SFF and WGS will nevertheless, be successfully implemented as locals and tourists will still enjoy good food. Spokesman for AMEX, Lee Siew Lee, head of direct sales and regional marketing, says that in the light of the economic downturn, it is even more important that AMEX works closely with STB to promote the SFF and better the travel and tourism industry. She adds that the haze affecting the region may also be a hindrance, but believes that it will still be a case of "taste over haze".
