WGS is an exclusive platform that showcases the magnificence of culinary arts and epicurean culture, and caters to both the trade and consumer. The WGS illustrates the concept of gastro-tourism, positioning Singapore as a world-class culinary destination. The Summit has provided leading chefs/restaurant owners of the world a meeting place to share new trends in enhancing the dining experience. It has also given consumers a chance to sample the finest culinary creations from around the world.

First conceptualised in 1997, the Summit has since grown in stature to become Asia's foremost gastronomic lifestyle event. WGS 2000 has also bagged the IFEA (International Festivals and Events Association) Grand Pinnacle Silver Award in USA in September 2000. A first time competitor, WGS beat a record of 1,600 entries in winning this prestigious award and Singapore is the first Asian country to have accomplished this. On 22 January 2002, the annual World Gourmet Summit (WGS) beat over 3,000 events across the world to clinch the Gold Award at the IFEA 2001 Grand Pinnacle Awards ceremony. In addition, the WGS 2001 has bagged the Gold Award for Best Website, and the Masterchef Safaris have also been awarded a Silver for IFEA Best New Event (Within an existing Festival).

For WGS 2002, be prepared for a week-long programme that will entice all your senses! Watch out for the ever-popular Masterchef Safaris, tantalising Epicurean Delights, experiential Vintner Dinners and creative Masterclasses!
